Hive Guard: Love the unit - Hate the model

So in the spirit of starting up an army I am going to work on the elites!

First up we have the hive guard. Not such a new kid on the block but it seems to have knocked the Zoanthrope off its high horse for tank busting. Don't get me wrong, Land Raiders rejoice in the absence of a lance attack but say good-by to psychic tests and hoods denying your anti tank shots.

I got my first pewter hive guard five days ago... and its still not standing on its own two feet. I can't seem to get it in the right position to; keep the gun level, make the arms line up behind each other, and have it standing on level footing. So, I like any chronic procrastinator, have turned to converting some of my warriors into guards instead of actually finishing the guard!

The idea stemmed from what I think was meant to be a twin linked devourer but I think would look better as a impaler cannon.

Really a fairly simple design, using ProCreate to attach two devourers with some scything talons thrown in to give it a little more menace. Cutting this guy up and giving him a little more armor is on my list for making another guard.

Adopting the use of talons for the menace I attempted to make the weapon look more suited for long ranged combat. This was done with the use of a thin copper tube attached to the end of a deathspitter. (?) I don't remember cutting the original weapon off but I think I was trying to get some small part off for another conversion... Oh well.

As for the Warrior to Guard conversion of the body I haven't gotten around to doing anything except the general shape. I decided to go with a genestealer head as its only a little armor off from the actual guard's shape. To give it a little more weight I put some gray stuff in the middle of the two sides of the head, and hopefully in a bit i can give it a more menacing mouth. As for the additional back armor it needs another layer for the top half and the defining split down the sides. Overall its showing great progress and should be done for this weekend!
